On April 6 I attended a portion of the Students of the Ancient Near East Symposium. Matt Grey, a friend of mine who completed his PhD at University of North Carolina last year, shared the exciting findings of the first year of his group’s dig of an ancient Jewish village, just north of the Sea of Galilee, named Huqoq. In the afternoon I attended a presentation on the Cult of Mithra. That presentation was mostly a review of things I had learned in my Ancient Mediterranean Religions class in my PhD program at Indiana University.
