A few weeks ago I attended a symposium at BYU put on by the Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology. Jeff Dyer, author of “The Innovator’s DNA” (co-authors are Hal Gregerson and Clayton Christensen), gave a great presentation about how to develop the skill of Innovation. He focused on the sub-skills of Association, Observation, Questioning, Experimenting, and Networking. We then practiced those skills through an activity led by the Innovation Academy. Great fun! Our group designed the iDivide. This creates a physical barrier between fighting or squabbling kids in a car (it includes a touch panel with games and learning materials). My favorite part was the one-way mirror idea that I came up with so that crying kids could watch themselves!
